Fulfilling the projects purpose in Second Life
1.) Broaden ship selection on the market
I'm fulfilling this requirement by making the ship and importing to Second Life.
2.) Accessible to residents
When the project is done it will be released for free on the market for anyone to grab, making it accessible to all residents and making it easier for role-players to find a nice ship. Getting this ship into the hands of other residents will fulfill this requirement.
3.)Aimed at role-players
Texturing comes in play here with the 3rd requirement by carefully painting a story into the ships engravings, scratches and details to make it feel like the ship has history. This will help role-players define a story for their character. I'm currently in the process of creating the texture now.
4.) Customization
Add basic customization to the ship such as colours and lighting. This will mainly be done in Second Life by letting the owner tweak colours of lights and change colours of the ship, I wont be able to fulfill this requirement until the texturing is done.
Fulfilling personal requirements
Learning goals for me include learning a multitude of new tools for texture creation and sound design. For this I have been using Substance Painter to create normal maps for the ship and in the process learn the basics of the programme and audacity for editing cutting and trimming sounds of the spaceship.
Currently I've learned tons, I manage to create the entire normal map inside Substance painter with the help of online tutorials. For me this requirement has been fulfilled.
The 2nd personal goal was to learn how to "[import a model] and successfully [render] it inside a 3D Environment / engine" which in this case is Second Life. As of now I've managed to get two prototype models into Second Life so this requirement has all so be fulfilled.
