Permissions on objects

Permissions on objects help residents protect and share their work on second life. The 4 levels of permissions include:

Modify

- If modify is enabled this lets anyone affected change the objects physical appearance which describes, scale, color and name or even delete the object.

Copy

- Describe the ability for an object to be copied from its original source as many times as needed. If copy is not enabled then you are not able to copy the original item at all.

Transfer

- Allows the next owner to further share the item as they wish, this is often referred to as resell/giveaway

Export

- Doesn't apply to second life but is used in other virtual environments such as OpenSim where anything created can be exported out of the platform

These permissions can be applied to groups, individuals or the next owner (This is useful for when you are selling an item)

If you'd like to read up more on permissions you find it HERE and HERE

Uses for different permissions

Modify

Lets the next owner manipulate the object as they see fit. For example maybe you have a decorative piece for a house such as a statue that was meant to be sat on a desk, if modify permissions are allowed then you could re-purpose the statue to be a life sized statue or change its color. More examples include fitting different clothing to suit your stature and more.

Copy

Lets the next owner make multiple copies. A great example of this would anything that has a decorative purpose and needs to be used multiple times to quickly populate and area. This could be anything from rocks to trees or plants. Etc.

Transfer

Lets the next owner do as they wish with the item. This option is only useful when you are giving away or selling the item to someone else.

Export

Used in other MUVE to quickly import and export from different platforms which can be used as a form of backup
